The Gate

From 27 to 29 December 2024, Gerace becomes the stage for The GATE - an extraordinary event that fuses the beauty of traditions with cutting-edge technology. The name ‘’Gate‘’, which means entrance, stands for Gerace Artistic and Technological Experience, a unique celebration that brings the past into the future through 3D video mapping and virtual reality installations, immersed in the history and charm of the village's alleys and streets.

The event programme is rich and varied, with experiences designed for all tastes. Among the Digital Invasions, which offer interactive tours between art, technology and nature, and the Aspromonte Art Safari, which explores unique itineraries between nature and art in the heart of Aspromonte, visitors will be able to immerse themselves in the Virtual Gerace (at the Civic Museum, from 5.30 p.m. to 11 p.m.), an immersive visit that combines historical heritage and technology. In addition, the city's historic churches will host art exhibitions, with Exhibits (from 5.30 pm to 11 pm), and in Piazza Tre Chiese, from 7 pm, there will be spectacular video mapping projections in the context of Beyond the Gate.

But The GATE is not just about technology: it is also an opportunity to reflect on contemporary society through innovative art forms. With Max Magaldi's Vainglory, an orchestra of 130 smartphones transmits social content, transforming it into a visual and sound sculpture, exploring our obsession with social media and public image. Another installation, Amnesia, by Cristian Rizzuti and Julian Alvarez, brings memory to life through an immersive pictorial performance in five stages.

In Non ti sento (I Can't Hear You), artist Alessandro D'Aquila reflects on the nature of faith in the modern age, proposing a Poetic Ottometrical Table involving light, sound and touch, inviting us to rediscover devotion in new and contemporary ways.

The grand finale, on 29 December, will offer festive moments with the Silent Disco (from 6.30 pm to 10 pm) in Piazza Tre Chiese, where music and dance will unite in a unique event, accompanied by Dj Vito Lacopo and Dj Osso. Also on the same day and time, the Experience Night will allow visitors to taste typical local products and discover ancient crafts and traditions in various locations in the village.
