Easter celebrations in Giffone

In the heart of the Aspromonte mountains, Giffone celebrates Easter with one of the most heartfelt and involving events of the Calabrian tradition: the Affruntata, scheduled for Sunday 20 April 2025 at 12 noon, along the evocative steps of the ‘’nzilicata‘’.

This is a centuries-old commemoration that combines popular devotion and scenic spectacle, in a symbolic encounter between the statues of the Risen Christ, the Madonna, and St. John. A moment of intense emotion and beauty, involving the entire community and visitors in a rite charged with emotion, passion and identity.

The Affruntata di Giffone is now a candidate for recognition as UNESCO ‘’Intangible Cultural Heritage‘’, testifying to its historical and social value for the territory and the whole of Calabria.

The day continues at 9 p.m. in Piazza Vittorio Veneto with a performance of Calabrian popular music, featuring Francesca Priolo, Miko Benedetto, Gioacchino Gligora and Tommaso Trunfio. In case of bad weather, the show will be held in the municipal gymnasium.
