Shrine of San Francesco di Paola
Place of worship
The Church of St Francis of Paola in Corigliano-Rossano in the province of Cosenza was built by the saint together with the convent of the same name between 1476 and 1478, the period in which he stayed in Corigliano.
Today's Shrine of St Francis in Corigliano is part of the region's Sacred Paths, specifically the itinerary in the footsteps of St Francis, the patron saint of Calabria. Inside, it houses the oldest representation of the saint.
The building of worship has a single nave and preserves a coffered ceiling and a valuable wooden choir from 1776, the work of Pasquale Pelusio.
On the back wall of the presbytery is a painting by Felice Vitale da Maratea, the ‘Triumph of the Name of Jesus’, and above it the ‘Holy Trinity’ attributed to Pietro Negroni.
