Spiaggia della Rotonda, Tropea - Regione Calabria
The Rotonda Beach in Tropea (VV) is one of the most beautiful spots on the Costa degli Dei. One glance is enough to understand why: nestled among the rocks, with fine golden sand, turquoise and incredibly transparent waters and an iconic panorama, with the cliff and the famous view from the historic centre of Tropea dominating everything. So evocative that in 2024 it was recognised as one of the most beautiful beaches in Europe, among the "50 Best Beaches".
It is easily reached by car along the seafront and there are several car parks in the surrounding area. The fittest visitors can walk here from the historic centre of Tropea, from the Discesa Marina del Vescovado, which starts from the Porta Nuova, or from the Scala dei Carabinieri, a shortcut that descends from the Largo Galluppi viewpoint via a hundred steps carved into the cliff. Both routes are surrounded by colourful and fragrant caper plants. The soft golden sand of Rotonda Beach is perfect for a relaxing holiday in a symbolic location on the Calabrian coast, just a short walk from the historic centre of Tropea. Here, from April to October, the Mediterranean climate offers days to be enjoyed by the sea or strolling through the alleys, viewpoints and squares of the "Pearl of the Tyrrhenian Sea", as Tropea is known.
Rotonda Beach can be seen from above, from the famous terrace of Tropea. From this angle, it is certainly one of the most photographed and Instagrammed beaches, with the turquoise sea contrasting with the colourful expanse of beach umbrellas. It is a true corner of paradise, enclosed between rocks, characterised by fine golden sand and a sea with ever-changing shades. Because of these characteristics, it is very popular in summer, chosen because it is the right place for those who want to relax, but also for those who love to explore the lesser-known rocks and coves. It is a comfortable place for adults and safe for children, also because of the always calm sea. The seabed slopes gradually, ideal for swimming. From this stretch, it is possible to access the Mermaid Cave, an artificial inlet that was once used by sailors as a reserve for lupini beans. Nearby are also the Palombaro Cave and the Linguata Cave, accessible by swimming or boat. Rotonda Beach has free areas for those who prefer a more 'wild' holiday, but there are also several equipped beaches where you can hire sunbeds and parasols, and there are bars and restaurants in the surrounding area.
