Planetarium Pythagoras

Point of interest
Planetario Pythagoras, Reggio Calabria - Planetario Pythagoras
Know how to observe the sky, learn about the movements of the planets, the phases of the moon and the shapes of the constellations. There is a place in Reggio Calabria where adults and children alike can discover the fascination of the vault of heaven: it is the Pythagoras Planetarium, with its iconic steel dome in which the sea and sky are reflected.
The experience inside the planetarium is unique, a perfect encounter between science and astronomy. Visitors sit on seats that give them the chance to lie back and watch the magic happen above their heads. In an extremely realistic manner, a starry sky is projected, giving the perfect illusion of being outdoors on a cloudless night watching the constellations, while an expert guide explains their characteristics and helps with orientation. On the vault, the main movements of the heavenly bodies, the apparent movements of the planets and the moon on the celestial sphere and around 5,000 stars are reproduced. The Supernova, the Planetary Nebula, the Rising Stars, the galaxy and the eclipses of the sun and moon are reproduced.
During this fascinating experience inside the Planetarium of Reggio Calabria, the sky changes luminosity, reproducing the diurnal movement and the various latitudes: the spectator can see the rising and setting of the stars in any season and place on Earth. It is a journey through time through the galaxies, while witnessing the simulation of secular and millennial motions (such as the migration of the celestial pole) and the reconstruction of the sky in past eras. Experienced viewers will recognise fundamental celestial lines such as the local meridian, ecliptic and celestial equator, while younger viewers will discover the shape of the major planets and the fascination of infinity.
