Petramala Medieval Castle

Castle
Castello di Petramala, Cleto - Regione Calabria
The Medieval Castle of Petramala in Cleto, in the province of Cosenza in the Savuto Valley, is among the castles in Calabria that have been restored and can be visited for much of the year. It is a defensive building of Byzantine-Norman origin. Known historically as the Castle of Pietramala, taking the ancient name of the village due to its particular rocky conformation, later attributed to the family of local feudal lords who enlarged it (10231), the Medieval Castle of Cleto has seen a succession of ownerships and alternate historical events.
The remains of the Medieval Castle of Petramala in Cleto stand in a panoramic position, at about 360 m above sea level, and still show the grandeur and functionality of the original rooms that made up the building: halls, parade grounds, towers and cisterns for water collection tell the story of medieval life in this area.
Following the restoration and enhancement works, today the Medieval Castle of Petramala in Cleto can be visited and hosts important events and festivals all year round, including the much-awaited ‘’Cleto Festival‘’, which for years has steadily established itself as one of the region's best-loved music and folklore events.
