Palazzo Carratelli, Amantea - Regione Calabria
Palazzo Carratelli is located in the heart of the historic centre of Amantea, a seaside town in the province of Cosenza, in the "Scogli di Isca" Regional Marine Park. Palazzo Carratelli is part of the Calabrian Historic Houses circuit and, as such, can be visited by appointment and houses a permanent exhibition by artist Camilla De Martino on the ground floor. The first historical records relating to the construction of Palazzo Carratelli date back to the second half of the 15th century. After the earthquake of 1638, it was renovated and enlarged; damaged again by the earthquake of 1905, it was restored in keeping with the original design by the De Liguori family, who had just purchased it. In 1995, it was acquired and restored by its current owners.
The building has three floors: the ground floor is accessed through a majestic entrance door, which leads to the internal courtyard around which a staircase is built. The convex façade incorporates the two existing towers. Among the prestigious guests who have frequented Palazzo Carratelli over the years are Antonello da Messina, Alfonso II of Aragon and the Cardinal of Benevento, Vincenzo Maria Orsini, who became Pope Benedict XIII.
