Medieval Castle of Oriolo

You haven't visited Oriolo Castle yet? You don't know what you're missing! We are in Oriolo, in the province of Cosenza, among Italy's Most Beautiful Villages in the Pollino National Park. Here, on the top of the cliff that dominates the historic centre stands the imposing Castle of Oriolo, one of the many Frederician castles in Calabria. The medieval village of Oriolo is arranged around its castle like a small crib: from a distance, the fortress appears imposing and scenic; up close, it gives the idea of being in the middle of the Middle Ages, surrounded by alleys and arches leading to the inner rooms.
Erected by the Sanseverino family, the Oriolo Castle preserves intact its original structure, characterised by two watchtowers and the donjon around which the entire building develops. Recently restored, the Medieval Castle of Oriolo can be visited and is open to the public: inside you can discover secrets and marvellous works of art: starting from the Banquet Hall, you will pass through the Audience Hall, the Flag Room, the military and service rooms and the precious Bed Room of Margherita Pignone del Carretto, with its dome frescoed with a Triumph of Apollo.
Oriolo Castle is also a venue for events and exhibitions throughout the year.
