Lake Tarsia Regional Nature Reserve

Natural reserve
Regione Calabria
The Tarsia Lake-Crati River Mouth Regional Nature Reserve, in the municipality of Tarsia in the province of Cosenza, is an oasis of biodiversity and habitat for numerous species of water birds and wildlife near the mouth of the Crati River, the main river in Calabria that flows into the Upper Ionian Sea in Cosenza. A must-see among the Calabrian lakes, Lake Tarsia is an artificial basin influenced by seasonal variations and rainfall that feeds the dam upstream.
The eastern part of the reserve is characterised by unspoilt Mediterranean scrub, with little human presence, woods, reeds and shallow waters. The “Lake Tarsia-Foce del Fiume Crati” Regional Nature Reserve is an extraordinary guardian of biodiversity, with a total of over 720 plant species and 182 vertebrate animals. A true natural paradise to explore!
