Church of the Santissimo Salvatore

Place of worship
Comune Badolato
The Church of the Santissimo Salvatore is the Mother Church of Badolato, among The Most Beautiful Villages in Italy on the Ionian coast in the province of Catanzaro. The building, dating back to the Norman era but with a 17th-century appearance, is located in the historical centre of Badolato Borgo and offers visitors several works of art: in addition to marble and some valuable paintings, the Church of the Santissimo Salvatore preserves the wooden bust of Sant'Andrea Avellino, patron saint of Badolato. The work, by the Neapolitan School of the 17th century, was restored a first time in the 20th century by master Giuseppe Maria Pisani and is awaiting a second intervention. The wooden sculptures also include those of St. Francis of Paola, St. Ivo and the valuable 19th-century bust of Ecce Homo, which can be admired during Holy Week in Badolato.
