Also known as the "Village of a Hundred Portals", Fuscaldo, in the province of Cosenza, is the ideal destination for those who want to combine a weekend of sea, relaxation and a charming historic centre.

A holiday in Fuscaldo offers the wonders of the village and those of Fuscaldo Marina: the crystal-clear sea of Fuscaldo, the free and equipped beaches and the unmissable water park in Fuscaldo.

Ready to discover one of the most complete destinations on the Calabrian Tyrrhenian coast?

Fuscaldo, the "Village of a Hundred Portals"

Known as the "Village of a Hundred Portals" due to its marvellous tuff portals, the work of local stonemasons, Fuscaldo is divided between the medieval village with its panoramic views and Fuscaldo Marina, the more recent settlement along the coast. What to see in Fuscaldo? Let's start at the top of the historic centre and discover all its wonders, beginning with the ruins of the ancient Castle, which are enough to remind us of the village's important history. A history carved into the facades of the stately buildings: all made of stone, with a well-defined local architectural style. There are at least 100 of them, topped with decorations, rose windows, statues, capitals and balconies in stone or wrought iron. Among the most important buildings in Fuscaldo? Palazzo Valenza.

What to see in Fuscaldo beyond the portals? The splendid churches, starting with the Matrice, with its high altar dedicated to St James the Greater Apostle, the precious reliquaries containing the remains of the martyr saints Stephen the Pope, Viator and Cassiodorus, and the private chapels with works by the masters Genesio Gualtieri and Gianbattista Santoro. Also not to be missed is the 18th-century Church of St Joseph, with a valuable altarpiece by Pascaletti, the same artist who painted the canvases in the Church of the Immaculate Conception; finally, the Oratory of San Giovanni Nuovo, one of the Augustinian sites in Calabria.

Fuscaldo Marina: the sea and the beaches

The Fuscaldo Marina seafront runs almost entirely along the coastal town, the perfect place to admire the red sunsets over the Tyrrhenian Sea framed by fountains and monuments, such as the one dedicated to St. Francis of Paola, patron saint of Calabria. Protecting this stretch of coastline is the imposing Tower of San Giorgio, built at the behest of Charles V in the mid-16th century, like the other coastal towers used to watch out for Turkish ships. Palazzo Ziccarelli is the heart of Fuscaldo Marina and one of the most important historic noble palaces, also characterised by a marvellous entrance portal, as is Villa Vaccari, near the Church of S. Maria del Rosario. A touch of contemporary art? It can be found almost everywhere, among the murals of Fuscaldo Marina that recount the life and traditions of the seaside village through the language of street art.

The sea and beaches of Fuscaldo are the real attraction that Fuscaldo Marina offers tourists. Taking a dip in the clear sea of Fuscaldo is a unique experience, as is spending a whole day relaxing on the beach, among long stretches of free sand or bathing establishments equipped with every comfort. From the beaches of Fuscaldo, you can admire the fishing boats that set sail at night in search of the renowned 'treasure of the poor': the delicious anchovies of the Tyrrhenian Sea, the stars of one of the unmissable events of the summer, the Anchovy Festival, which makes Fuscaldo one of the "Cities of Blue Fish" in Calabria.
