A towel stretched out on the cool sand and looking up at the sky, with a wish ready to be made.

Who does not have this image in the archive of memories of the most beautiful summers? But the magic is renewed every year on 10 August on the night of San Lorenzo, and Calabria, with its clear skies and observation areas far from light pollution, offers several locations from which to admire the shooting star spectacle.

The Night of San Lorenzo in Calabria

Small squares, panoramic terraces overlooking the sea from which to gaze at the sky, viewpoints positioned on hills or mountain tops, wide beaches to lie on with your nose in the air: you will be spoilt for choice to make your night of San Lorenzo truly special, with friends or family.

On the Tyrrhenian or the Ionian Sea, in the mountains, in the hills or even in the city, the most romantic night of the year will still be unforgettable.

Sila National Park

Are you enjoying a holiday in the nature and coolness of the Sila National Park? You are in the right place to experience the magical night of San Lorenzo at its best. Mountainous locations such as Lorica, Camigliatello Silano and San Giovanni in Fiore offer observation points away from artificial lights, perfect for admiring the shooting star spectacle.

Capo Vaticano

Illuminated by the sun, it is one of the most beautiful and iconic tourist resorts in Calabria: the crystal-clear waters, the white sand, the cliffs that outline the beach. Capo Vaticano, with its promontory overlooking the Tyrrhenian coast, however, can also offer spectacular views at night, especially on San Lorenzo, when light trails cut the sky, ready to collect the most intimate wishes of those who manage to spot them.

Pollino National Park

The heights of this unspoilt area will be perfect for observing the starry sky on the most poetic night of the year, while enjoying the panorama and pure air of the Pollino National Park. One idea is to plan walks and excursions and explore characteristic villages rich in history and culture such as Civita and Morano Calabro and then, on the night of San Lorenzo, look for the right place from which to observe the sky lit only by the stars.

Scilla

The beauty of this village nestled on the Tyrrhenian coast is well known, but not everyone knows that Scilla, due to its characteristics. is also an excellent spot from which to observe the Perseids (the swarm of falling stars takes its name from the constellation Perseus) in a fairy-tale atmosphere.

The Marina Grande beach offers a wide view of the sky, while from the characteristic Chianalea district, which is darker and more reserved, the spectacle of falling stars will be at one with the magic of this place.
