Badolato (CZ) is hosting a new event as part of the “FAI Ponte tra Culture” (FAI Bridge between Cultures) project, with a cultural initiative dedicated to Calabrian culinary traditions. On Sunday 1 February, starting at 10:00, the “Ritual of the Pig in Calabrian Popular Tradition: An Ancient Community Festival” initiative will take place at the “Il Castellano” restaurant. This event is designed to bring together memory, gastronomic knowledge and conviviality.
Organised in collaboration with Pro Loco Badolato APS – UNPLI Calabria and the Provincial Association of Catanzaro Chefs, the event offers a traditional cooking workshop focusing on the role of pork in Calabrian peasant culture. This element has always been central to food practices and community rituals. It is curated by Massimo Bressi, the owner of Macelleria Bressi in Badolato Marina; the chefs of the Provincial Association of Catanzaro Chefs; and Barbara Froio, a writer and expert in traditional cuisine. Participants will be taken on a journey through stories, techniques, flavours and customs handed down over time.
This will be followed by a convivial tasting session of traditional dishes related to the theme of the event to promote food as a means of fostering sharing, memory and intercultural dialogue. The initiative is part of a project that promotes the active involvement of different communities, including foreign citizens residing in the area, by encouraging exchange and participation opportunities.
Participation is by reservation only, and a membership fee applies.
