The Magna Graecia Train

On the occasion of Sunday at the Museum, on 6 October 2024 it will be possible to take part in a fascinating itinerary to discover Locri and Gerace, departing from Catanzaro Lido and Reggio Calabria Centrale. The tour includes guided visits to the Archaeological Museum of Palazzo Nieddu del Rio in Locri and the charming village of Gerace, with transfers by Gran Turismo coach.

The Museum of the Territory of Palazzo Nieddu, opened in 2018, is part of the circuit of cultural places of the National Archaeological Park of Locri Epizefiri. Housed inside a 19th-century aristocratic palace, the museum offers a collection that tells the story of the colony of Locri Epizefiri and the indigenous peoples, with artefacts dating from prehistoric to protohistoric times.

After a visit to the museum and a walk through the historic centre of Locri, the tour will continue to the medieval town of Gerace, with a panoramic ride on the tourist train. It will be possible to have lunch in an affiliated establishment or a packed lunch. In the afternoon, visitors will explore the Co-Cathedral Basilica of Santa Maria Assunta and the Diocesan Museum, and then have free time to discover the handicraft shops and local flavours of the historic centre.

9:22 am: Arrival at Locri station
9:40: Guided tour of Palazzo Nieddu and free time
11:30: Transfer by bus to Gerace and panoramic tour by tourist train
12:30: Lunch in an affiliated structure or packed lunch
15:00: Guided visit to the Co-Cathedral Basilica of Gerace and Diocesan Museum
17:30: Return and transfer to the bus
