The Aragonesi Marathon, one of Calabria’s premier mountain biking events, returns to the heart of the Pollino National Park. It combines sport, nature and exploration of the local area.

It starts in Campotenese, in the municipality of Morano Calabro — the gateway to the park — and various routes wind their way through the mountain range’s landscapes from there. There are three routes to choose from, designed for different fitness levels: a 63 km marathon, a 48 km granfondo, and a 28 km leisure ride aimed at those who wish to enjoy the experience as a cycle tour.

The routes pass through some of the park’s most picturesque spots, including centuries-old beech forests, wide plateaus, and dirt tracks surrounded by nature. Participants will take in iconic scenery such as Piani di Novacco, Campolongo di Lungro, Cifariello and Lavender Park, reaching altitudes of nearly 1,900 metres.

As well as being a sporting competition, the Aragonesi Marathon offers participants the chance to discover one of the most captivating landscapes in the Calabrian mountains. The silence of the woods, sweeping views and variety of trails make for a particularly immersive cycling experience.

This event attracts mountain bike and cycle touring enthusiasts from all over Italy, offering them the chance to experience the Pollino through sport and direct contact with nature.
