The Calabrian theatre scene is welcoming Metadietro, the latest creation by the artistic duo Antonio Rezza and Flavia Mastrella. The pair were recognised with the Golden Lion for Lifetime Achievement at the Venice Biennale in 2018. Their work is notable for its exploration of physical performance, the visual construction of space and a distinctive use of language, resulting in a theatre that is both essential and contemporary.
In this production, the artists offer a theatrical reflection that uses irony as a critical tool to examine the contradictions of the present day. The starting point is a situation of collective drift: a lost crew, led by a figure of authority, moves through a suspended space that evokes travel and shipwreck without any defined temporal or geographical references. The narrative progresses through imagery and tension, with the body and voice constructing meaning and rhythm.
The action on stage unfolds within the "habitats" designed by Flavia Mastrella — structures that constantly interact with the performers and become an active part of the dramaturgy. The result is a theatrical experience that encourages the audience to listen and read critically without resorting to didactic explanations.
The show is scheduled for Friday 30 January at 9.00 pm at the Teatro Politeama Mario Foglietti in central Catanzaro.
