From 7 to 12 August 2025, Amantea will host the 13th edition of La Guarimba International Film Festival, the largest short film festival in Italy. Year after year, this event continues to bring cinema back to the people and the people back to cinema, with a community spirit that is open and deeply rooted in the Calabrian territory.
This edition will be particularly intense, marked by an absence that leaves its mark: that of Nonna Saveria, a symbolic figure of the festival since its inception, an example of popular wisdom and authentic curiosity towards culture. The entire event will be dedicated to her, as will the Nonna Saveria Award, which will continue to reward the short film most loved by the public, as she did, with her sparkling eyes and her never banal opinions.
The 2025 programme features 190 short films from 67 countries, a journey through the stories and languages of the world, highlighting urgent and universal themes: from the conflict in Gaza and Ukraine to the crisis in Venezuela, from women's emancipation to artistic experimentation, to animation for children, with the special programme La Grotta dei Piccoli, produced in collaboration with UNICEF Italy.
Not just screenings: workshops, meetings and performances will enliven the festival, transforming Amantea into a veritable open-air cultural laboratory. Guests will include the Serato Animato collective, with workshops and screenings dedicated to the world of independent animation, and the founders of the Venezuelan festival ESTÁJEVI, who will bring Caribbean sounds and dances to the Tyrrhenian coast of Calabria. There will also be community lunches, guided tours of the historic centre and moments dedicated to recounting the best cultural experiences born in Calabria. At the end of the festival, the “Vitaliano Camarca” Audience Award will be presented, dedicated to the memory of another key figure in the history of the festival.
