From 18 October to 15 November 2025, Montalto Uffugo will host the national exhibition "Italy's Earthquakes". The initiative offers a unique journey through science, history and prevention, dedicated to understanding earthquakes and the culture of safety.

Calabria, a highly seismic region at the centre of the Calabrian arc, thus becomes a laboratory for research and dissemination. The exhibition, hosted in the former Fincalabra-Invitalia headquarters, recounts the tremors that have marked the region's history, from the earthquake of 1783 to that of the Strait of Messina in 1908, and explains how science studies ground movements, from seismic waves to satellite surveys by the Sentinel-1 and COSMO-SkyMed missions.

On Saturday 18 October at 10.30 a.m., the inauguration will kick off a month of learning and prevention, with the participation of civil, military and scientific institutions, including INGV, the University of Calabria, the Fire Brigade and the Calabria Region.

The exhibition features models, interactive panels and dynamic simulators, including the 'seismic room', which allows visitors to safely experience an earthquake. Volunteers from the national campaign I don't take risks will also be present, ready to illustrate behaviours and strategies for reducing seismic risk in everyday life.

Alongside the exhibition, a packed calendar of thematic seminars will explore the history, technology and management of emergencies, with a focus on earthquake-resistant masonry, land-use planning and durable materials.

The exhibition is free and open from Monday to Saturday from 8:30 am to 1:30 pm and from 3:00 pm to 6:00 pm, with online booking required.
