Historical re-enactments
On Saturday, 19 July 2025, the National Museum and Archaeological Park of Locri will host a special day of living history dedicated to the culture and spirituality of Magna Graecia, with a final ceremony in honour of the goddess Persephone.
The initiative, promoted as part of the MIC - Regional Directorate of Museums of Calabria's Call for Educational Services in Places of Culture, offers a rich programme of activities including workshops, re-enactments and dramatised guided tours, to rediscover the Greek world in an engaging and multi-sensory way.
Programme
6:00 p.m. - National Museum of Locri
- Welcome of participants
- Experiential workshops with ceramics and ornamental objects
- Ancient games and educational activities for all ages
7:00 p.m.
- Theatrical guided tour of the museum's exhibits
7:45 p.m. – Outside the museum
- Archery workshop
- Greek camp set up with weapons and tools on display and combat demonstrations
- Themed exhibitions on food, wine, music and games in ancient times
8:30 p.m. – Locri Archaeological Park (Marasà Temple area)
- Demonstrations of Greek combat techniques (“art of war”)
- Tournaments and challenges with ancient board games (petteia, polis, orca, stomachion)
9:30 p.m. – Living History: Ceremony in honour of the goddess Persephone
- Hymns and ritual prayers
- Symbolic offering by the athlete Agesidamo of Locri
- Pyrrhic dance of the Greek warriors in honour of Zeus
- Recitation of an ode to Persephone
Group dances dedicated to the goddess, with audience participation
A lively and participatory immersion in the ancient world, between myth, play and memory.
