Tosca, one of Giacomo Puccini's most intense and overwhelming masterpieces, arrives at the Cilea Theatre, on stage on 27 March at 9:00 pm and on 29 March at 5:30 pm. A melodrama in three acts which, since its first performance in 1900, has continued to thrill audiences around the world thanks to a story full of tension, absolute passion and twists and turns.
Inspired by the play written by Victorien Sardou for Sarah Bernhardt, the opera tells the story of the tormented love between the singer Floria Tosca and the painter Mario Cavaradossi, overwhelmed by the cruelty of Baron Scarpia. A story where feelings, deception and power intertwine relentlessly, supported by a score that enhances the dramatic intensity and theatrical power of every gesture.
This production chooses to restore Tosca to its full visual grandeur, bringing back Nicola Benois' historic set design, reconstructed for the occasion by Scenografie Sormani in Milan. A production that honours the tradition of great Italian melodrama, enhancing the atmospheres, rituals and symbols that have made this opera an icon of Puccini's repertoire.
