San Nicola Arcella is preparing to celebrate Carnival with a rich programme of events combining culture, creativity and fun. A journey through history and tradition, to rediscover the charm of a festival that involves the whole community.
15 February - ‘’The Masked Men‘’
At 4.30 pm, at the San Nicola Arcella Hall, a special meeting dedicated to the history of Sannicolese Carnival. The Pro Loco and local associations will guide participants to discover the ancient traditions and meaning of the mask of Giangurgolo, symbol of the Calabrian Carnival. An opportunity to immerse oneself in the tales and games of the past.
20 February - ‘’The art of papier-mâché‘’
At the Palazzo dei Principi Lanza, a creative experience with the support of Il Grillo Parlante di Diamante and local associations. Participants will be able to make masks and carnival decorations, learning the ancient techniques of papier-mâché in a workshop dedicated to traditional craftsmanship.
23 February - ‘’Carnival in the Square‘’
At 3 p.m., the main square of San Nicola Arcella will come alive with a big party between past and present. The Pro Loco, Compagnia Sirio, and local associations will give life to shows and parades in an afternoon of colours, music, and sharing.
1 March - Great ending of Carnival
An extraordinary event will close the San Nicola Arcella Carnival with special guests. The Giants of Taurianova, the papier-mâché creations made by Il Grillo Parlante, the Street Band, the association ‘Siamo tutti un po’ pagliacci', and the circus artists of Enjoy Praia will bring shows and entertainment for young and old, transforming the streets of the town into a festive stage.
