In the heart of Calabria, the village of Mileto hosts the 2026 edition of Carnival in Art, an event that promotes Carnival as an expression of identity and a form of shared creativity. Taking place between February and May, the event involves the historic centre and the city's main locations with initiatives aimed at a wide and diverse audience.
The main Carnival days, scheduled for 15, 16 and 17 February, feature creative workshops, artistic performances and tastings, as well as theatrical guided tours and a grand parade of allegorical floats created by local schools, associations and artists. The city comes alive during this time with colours, music, and popular participation.
Alongside the festive celebrations, the event provides opportunities for cultural enrichment through discussions about the social significance of masks and carnival as a collective language. The event symbolically concludes in May with art installations and a photographic exhibition entitled "Masks and Freedom – The Work of the Imagination'' in the historic centre of Mileto, accompanied by a folk music concert. This closing event extends the Carnival narrative and fosters dialogue between tradition, cultural heritage, and community participation.
