San Giovanni in Fiore, in the heart of the Sila National Park, will host the Tourism Week of the Roots, from 19 to 25 June 2023, conceived by the mayor Rosaria Succurro, with particularly attractive events - including the second edition of the "Jole Santelli" award and the celebration of the town's patron saint, St. John the Baptist -, establishing the first edition of the unprecedented "Festival of Traditional Calabrian Costume", scheduled for 22 June in an atmosphere full of cultural and enogastronomic initiatives on tourism of the roots, fundamental for the development of our territories.
Tradition is the guardian and vehicle of values that must not be dispersed, and the project stems from the desire to preserve tradition, involving the community of San Giovanni in Fiore, in Italy and around the world, and to attract the many visitors to Sila, bringing together in a single major event the valorisation of traditional Calabrian costumes, not only local, but of the ethno-linguistic minorities that characterise the religious, cultural and identity history of our land. Municipalities from every Calabrian province, from the hinterland and the coasts, from towns to the mountains, will take part in the festival. Each mayor will present the traditional female costume worn on stage.
A jury of qualified experts will assess the beauty of the costumes, the deportment of the contestants, and, where appropriate, the jewellery matched in accordance with individual local traditions. For the occasion, there will be a relay prize, expertly crafted by one of Sangiovannese's most prestigious goldsmith masters. During all stages of the event, the cornerstones are sustainable tourism, the promotion of respect for the environment, walking, waste separation and plastic free.
