The Politeama Theatre in Catanzaro is preparing to welcome one of the most authoritative and beloved voices in Italian historical dissemination: Alessandro Barbero will be the protagonist, on 4 November 2025 at 7:00 p.m., of a masterclass entitled “The Invention of St. Francis”.
This special event is promoted by the Municipality of Catanzaro in collaboration with Editori Laterza and Fondazione Politeama, and is part of a project to promote the city's culture, strongly supported by the administration led by Mayor Nicola Fiorita. The meeting aims to strengthen the dialogue between history, community and symbolic places in the city, offering the public a valuable opportunity to reflect – with competence and passion – on one of the most emblematic figures of the Christian West.
With his engaging style, Barbero will take the audience on a journey through historical sources, myth-making and collective identity, shedding new light on the story of St. Francis, between popular devotion and historiographical reconstruction.
At the end of the lecture, it will be possible to purchase the professor's books and participate in a book signing session.
