In the picturesque setting of the Torre Sant'Antonio resort in Santa Caterina dello Ionio (CZ), the eighth season of the cultural review ‘A Look from the Tower’ kicks off. This well-established event offers a series of cultural encounters exploring current topics and evoking significant historical moments, with a special focus on Calabrian life and beyond.
The 2024 edition includes a rich calendar of events:
19 July at 7 p.m.
Vitaliano Fulciniti will present his book ‘Il viaggio e la mente’ (The Journey and the Mind), a spy story about the friendship between Vincenzo, a former Italian Secret Service agent, and his young colleague Silvano.
20 July 7 p.m.
Achiropita Tina Morello will present ‘Codex Purpureus Rossanensis’, an analysis of one of the oldest manuscripts of the New Testament.
26 July 7 p.m.
Michele Fontana will present his book ‘Sanguinis effusione’, Siege and Resilience. Summer 1528. While the French troops of Francis I descend, almost unchallenged, to conquer the Kingdom of Naples, the capital and Catanzaro are the last two strongholds defending the Empire of Charles V.
25 July 7 p.m.

A treasure hunt for families to learn about the history and characteristics of Torre Sant'Antonio. Torre Sant'Antonio, also featured in Romano Carratelli's famous ‘Codex of Wonders’, is one of around fifty Saracen Towers still in good condition in Calabria.
2 August 7 p.m.
A reading by writer Elisa Iride Longo, who will read poems from her latest work ‘Sana sana’, accompanied by Maestro Giorgio Caporale.
3 August 7 p.m.
Presentation of the ‘Sentieri d'arte a Lamezia terme’ project on the enhancement of the territory by the ‘Al Vaglio’ Association.
7 August 4 p.m.
A treasure hunt for families to learn about the history and characteristics of the village of Santa Caterina. An exciting treasure hunt through the streets of the village.
9 August 7 p.m.
Marco Lupis will discuss his book ‘Chinese Shadows over Italy’, offering an up-to-date view of Chinese influences in Italy.
10 August 4 p.m.
The traditional toast on the beach in honour of San Gabriele with a parade of boats accompanying the Saint and traditionally offered by the owners of the Torre di Sant'Antonio. To follow, Sandra Ianni will present her book ‘Il vocabolario del cibo’ (The vocabulary of food), a history and curiosity about the dishes we bring to the table.
14 August 4 p.m.
A treasure hunt for children with a fantasy theme in the gardens of Torre Sant'Antonio. An idea for playing together as mid-August approaches.
16 August at 7 p.m.
Franco Schipani will talk about his best seller ‘Without vices is a shit life’, in which he recounts his experience in the USA during the Rock era.
23 August 7 p.m.
Writer Niccodemo Misiti will present his book ‘Ucciallì’. The presentation will be accompanied by a historical re-enactment of the Saracen attack on the watchtowers.
