From 3 to 10 February 2025, the House of Culture in Mesoraca will host the exhibition ‘’1914. Something new on the Western Front", an exhibition that recounts an extraordinary moment of the First World War: the Christmas Truce of 1914.
An opportunity to immerse oneself in the stories and testimonies of those days when German, British and French soldiers, despite being on opposite sides, chose to interrupt the fighting to share a moment of fraternity, exchanging gifts and even playing football. The exhibition, presented at the 45th edition of the Meeting for Friendship among Peoples, is curated by Antonio Besana with the collaboration of Sara Abu Aziz and brings to light historical documents, letters and images that restore the universal value of human solidarity. Thanks to photographic material from the In Flanders Fields Museum in Ypres and video contributions by Mary Daley of Sainsbury's Media Relations, the exhibition is enriched with a strong visual and emotional impact. The video montage of the letters, created by Giovanni Assandri and Massimiliano Demeo, and the interpretations by Claudio Lobbia and Paolo Quinzi, give voice to the protagonists of an event that continues to speak to the present.
