On 16 and 17 October 2025, Sant'Agata del Bianco, the birthplace of Saverio Strati, will host the national conference '100 Strati. Identity, memory and future', a tribute to the great Calabrian writer on the centenary of his birth.
The initiative, promoted by the 100Strati Committee and the Calabria Region in collaboration with the Calabria Film Commission, will bring together writers, scholars and cultural operators from all over Italy to reflect on the literary and civil legacy of one of the most intense authors of the 20th century.
Over the course of two days, there will be readings, speeches and testimonials exploring the language, narrative structure and modern, restless vision of Strati's work, in an open dialogue between literature, identity and collective memory.
Through his novels – from La Teda to Il Selvaggio di Santa Venere – Strati recounted the transformations of contemporary Italy with realism and poetry, giving voice to the dignity and contradictions of the working-class and peasant world.
With '100 Strati', Calabria celebrates not only a great author, but also a profound and authentic way of looking at the South and its roots, restoring Saverio Strati to his rightful place in the history of Italian literature.
