San Pietro Apostolo
San Pietro Apostolo, among Garibaldi's memories, ancient crafts and Silan nature

Town
San Pietro Apostolo - Regione Calabria
Lying on the slopes of the Sila National Park (Sila Piccola) and surrounded by mountains, there is San Pietro Apostolo, a municipality in the province of Catanzaro that deserves to be known.
Few people know it, but this town has a place in the history of the Risorgimento: Giuseppe Garibaldi, leader of the Expedition of the Thousand, was hosted here. It was his supporter Anselmo Tomaini who wanted him to stay at his home, Palazzo Tomaini, on the night between 28 and 29 August 1860. Garibaldi's visit is commemorated by plaques on the walls of the building that housed him.
The village of San Pietro Apostolo is embellished by noble palaces and several churches, the most important of which is dedicated to the saint whose name the village bears. Inside the Church of San Pietro there is a baptismal font made of Gimigliano marble.
We are in a town of weavers: in the past, broom was worked here and silkworms were bred; the spinners' past is a glorious one, of which there are numerous traces today that can also be admired in the Museum of Rural and Artisan Civilisation.
After visiting the village, the advice is to take a walk along the banks of the Amato River where no less than five watermills are still visible.
