Plataci - Regione Calabria

The village of Plataci (pronounced Plàtaci), in the province of Cosenza, is a lively community of Italian-Albanian origin, rich in creativity, traditions and breathtaking views in the unspoilt nature of the Pollino.

Discovering Plataci means immersing yourself in the culture and folklore of its Arbëreshë community, which has recently decided to tell its story through a series of colourful murals in the streets of the village.

It is no coincidence that Plataci has become known as the "Town of Arbëreshë Murals", the main attraction of this small mountain town. This artistic initiative was created to promote and recount the customs and traditions of the Albanian people, who still preserve their Greek-Byzantine festivals (in particular Carnival, Lent and Arbëreshë Easter), music, songs and traditional clothing.

In addition to the mural tour, the 17th-century Church of Our Lady of Constantinople and the Church of St. John the Baptist, patron saint of Plataci, with its interesting Baroque interior, are also worth a visit.
