Pietrapaola lies on the slopes of the Sila Greca, on the bank of the Trionto river, in the province of Cosenza. The seaside hamlet of Camigliano (or Pietrapaola Marina) stretches along the beautiful Costa degli Achei and is a popular summer destination.

The town of Pietrapaola has very ancient origins, dating back to the pre-Hellenic presence of the Bretti, the Italic population perched on the cliff known as the ‘’Castle‘’, to which some caves on Mount Orgia (a probable necropolis) are ascribed. The walls in Contrada San Martino (IV-III B.C.), known as ‘’Hannibal's Walls‘’, remain from the Classical period; while findings of coins and ceramics suggest the presence of the legendary ‘’Fourth Sybaris‘’.

The entire territory of Pietrapaola is rich in caves and rock monuments, such as the splendid testimony inside the Prince's Cave, in a panoramic position. Passing through the Colonel's Arch, one of the main entrances to the town, you will come across the Church of Santa Maria delle Grazie, of medieval origin with a beautiful rose window, the Freschia Fountain in the centre of the town, with two masks from which water flows, and the Maio Fountain, immersed in a large green space.
